I
can't believe it, but once the day was done I realized I didn't have a
single picture of the progress… that's ok though. Let's
just say it was final drilling day, because that’s basically all
I did. The plans for the tanks have you cleco some, and then
final drill. Then cleco some more, and final drill again... etc,
etc. We're taking a different route by clecoing pretty much
everything together, and then final drilling. We held off on
attaching the rear baffles until the J-stiffeners were drilled.
Now that the baffles are on it's time to drill the rest.
|
(18-2 step 6): I mostly stuck with the order in the plans to ensure I got everything. First up was match drilling the skins to the ribs.
|
(18-3 step 2): Next was match drilling the skins to the tank attachment bracket.
|
(18-4 step 2): I final drilled the aft tank inboard rib to the tank attachment bracket and the tank inboard nose rib using a long #30 bit.
|
| (18-4 step 4): Then it was the skin to baffle holes. |
| (18-4 step 5): I used a #19 drill to open up the screw holes in the fuel tank skins. |
| (18-2 step 5): Finally,
I backed up to page 2 and final drilled the skins to the tank
stiffeners. The most inboard of these on the lower surface get an
extra hole drilled in them. The purpose for this hole will be
explained later. |
