(18-2 steps 5 & 6, 18-3 steps 1 & 2, 18-4 step 2): We clecoed the second tank to the same point as the first.
|
(18-2 step 5): I clecoed the fuel drain flange to the bottom of each tank.
|
(18-3 step 1): While there's still access to the inside of the tanks I match drilled the skin holes into the J-stiffeners.
|
(18-4 step 3):
Next I slipped the baffles in and clecoed them in place.
After that, the tank attachment zees were clecoed on. Now, of
course it wasn't until everything was clecloed in place that I realized
there was this additional hole between two of the normally spaced rivet
holes. There's a matching hole in the skin, but its only on the
lower surface. A quick check of the rivet assignments and nothing
is slated to go in this hole, but it just bothered me... so, I
unclecoed the baffle from the second tank and turned it around so this
hole would line up with its corresponding hole in the skin.
|
With the baffles correctly oriented and the zees all in place, I final drilled the zees to the baffles and ribs.

Here are the tanks… with a few clecoes for added
weight ;-) Look a lot like the leading edges don't they.
They're quite a bit different though. They're not quite as long,
they're made out of thicker material, they have a back on them and you
can't see the insides of them... but that's for obvious reasons ;-)
