Well,
realizing that we were running out of our 30-day limit, we decided to
dive into the second box of the Wing kit. This is where the meat
of the wings are... the main spars! This box is over 15' long,
well over 200-lbs, and very densly packed. Van's makes some
efficient use of space in this one.

Angela
did a very diligent job of inventorying and organizing all the little
hardware bags. I did a good portion of that for the Empennage kit
so I can tell you she worked hard today! This is a VERY boring
job, but it sooo pays off in the end...

Here
is our main helper, Sylvester. She has got to be the coolest cat
in the entire world! She loves the garage, but hasn't quite
gotten used to the loud noises yet... hmmm... maybe if we get her some
little ear plugs... I wonder...

Now
that we're done with inventorying the Wing kit, Angela jumped back on
the rudder. Yesterday she clecoed the trailing edge in place in
preparation for cutting it to shape (7-6 step 4), and today that's
exactly what she started off doing. Once sanded down, she clecoed
it back in place, and then attached the second skin per step 5.

Here's a close up showing the trailing edge in place and how the end of it now follows the lines of the skin.
|
Ok, maybe she coerced me into helping her with some of the clecoes...

Per 7-6 step 6, final drilling
the trailing edge should be done perpendicular to the rudder chord
instead of the skin surface like all the other holes. We found a
simple method of determining this was for me to stand at the end of the
rudder and let Angela know when she was pretty close to the right
angle. With her concentrating on the up and down, and me
concentrating on the left and right (or is that the other way around??)
we whipped through the trailing edge pretty quick.
