This
morning saw Angela & I enjoying a cup of coffee, eating our
breakfast & reviewing Vertical Stabilizer & Rudder plans.
Once we realized what we were doing we laughed at ourselves. Next
time we'll be sure and get a picture. During the afternoon we had
a few "chores" to do around the house so building didn't start until
later tonight. Angela went back to working on the website while I
started off with step 8 of section 6-3.

Here you can see the the
countersunk holes in the VS-1003 Rear Spar. The marked hole is
where the lower row of rivets will go that attach the Vertical
Stabilizer skin. Everything below that will be covered up by the
fuselage tail skins.

Remembering that Angela was
working on the rudder I thought I would go ahead and separate the
R-1007 Rudder Stop parts as called out in 6-4 step 3. She'll need
the R-1007A's, and I'll need the R-1007B's (shown here). This
shot, as you can probably tell, is a before and after look. The
stamping process produces some fairly sharp edges. A quick trip
to the scotchbrite wheel and the edges are just as soft as they could
be.

Well,
here's one of the drawbacks of having our construction start date
pushed back a few months... we haven't even bucked our first rivet and
I'm having to inventory the Wing kit. Like quite a few others we
decided to beat the January 1 price hike and order our Wing kit by new
years. Now that its arrived we need to inventory it asap.

Here's
a shot of the left wingtip... those are going to be some big wings...
or a small pilot depending on how you look at it. I think both
apply in this case!
|
This
is a shot of some of the parts from the short flat box. In the
background you can see the nose skins for the wings. Inside of
those are the nose skins for the ailerons & flaps. The thin
blue sheets sitting on top of the long box are the skins for the
ailerons & flaps. Wrapped up in front of them are some of the
rear wing ribs, and there are more sitting in the background. We
didn't tackle the contents of the long box yet... that'll probably be
tomorrow.
