ABOUT THIS SITE There are numerous builder sites on the web, all of them very beneficial in helping would-be builders understand what’s involved in the construction of a homebuilt aircraft. These sites also serve as a handy reference by those that have “been there, done that”.
The primary purpose of this site is to serve as our builder’s log during the construction of our RV-10 homebuilt aircraft. We do not wish to instruct, promote or direct any method of construction, as this site is simply meant to fulfill the FAA’s requirement for a log of the construction of our airplane. Having said that, we hope our experiences in someway can help other builders overcome hurdles by offering a different look at something, or at the very least inspire confidence during those times when moral may be low. A secondary purpose of this site is to keep our family up to date on our progress. We’re still not sure they believe us when we persistently tell them we’re “building and airplane”. Maybe they’ll believe us when we actually fly it to see them! In an attempt to allow easy navigation to specific points in the construction log, we have laid it out in two different formats: By Date, and By Plans. By Date refers to a chronological listing of our build process. It’s not uncommon for builders to jump around in the plans due to various reasons, so we decided to also provide of method of navigating the log based on the plans we’re building to. This allows quick access to our log entries for a particular part of the plans. And a quick note about our time... we're logging total "man hours" on this project. So if both of us are in the shop at the same time for an hour, say one of us shooting rivets and the other bucking, then we log 2 hours even though the time in the shop that night was only 1. We wanted an accurate record of just how many hours we put into this thing! It's a journey... and we're loving every bit of it!!! To all those who are doing the same... good luck, and keep at it!!! To all those who are just watching... we're not crazy... really ;-) |
